Goal

The scope of our project is to design and implement labs for hands-on practice in blue team situations. The goal is to establish the overarching goals of the lab, such as understanding specific cyber threats, learning defense mechanisms, or mastering particular tools.

Methodology

Designing and implementing a methodology for cybersecurity labs involves creating a structured approach to teaching, learning, and experimenting with cybersecurity concepts and practices. The methodology includes:

  1. Needs Assessment:
  • Identify essential skills and knowledge areas for blue team operations.
  • Gather input from industry professionals and educators to determine critical areas of focus.
  1. Lab Design:
  • Define clear learning objectives for each lab session.
  • Develop realistic and challenging scenarios that simulate real-world cyber threats.
  1. Lab Implementation:
  • Create detailed instructions and documentation for each lab.
  • Set up necessary virtual environments and tools required for the labs.
  • Implement assessment mechanisms to evaluate students' performance and understanding.
  1. Feedback and Iteration:
  • Collect feedback from students and instructors after each lab session.
  • Continuously improve the labs based on this feedback to enhance their effectiveness and relevance.

Future Development

The labs will be shared with the University of Turku students to complete as part of their cybersecurity courses. Future development plans include:

  • Expanding the lab scenarios to cover emerging cyber threats and new defense technologies.
  • Collaborating with industry experts to keep the labs up-to-date with current best practices.
  • Integrating the labs with other educational resources and platforms for a more comprehensive learning experience.
  • Developing a community of practice where students and instructors can share insights, challenges, and solutions related to the labs.
