University of Turku

Capstone

Archery Trainer is made to be used by the archery coaches to monitor their athletes progress and help them find the best possible posture and amount of tension for the best possible precision. The project was done in collaboration with Arcus Archery in Turku, and the goal is that it could be expanded upon in the future to sports other than Archery.

Implementation

The goal of Archery Trainer is to help mainly professional archers improve their performance, by monitoring their muscle tension. Archery Trainer uses six muscle sensors to measure six different muscles and their individual tension during each shot the archer takes. The data is shown to the archer both in graph form, with tension over time, and in visual form. The visual data is shown on a static image of back muscles, where each measured muscle and their respective tension will be shown in the anatomically correct position via colors. The data is saved into a database after each shot, and each shot’s data can be accessed by the athlete afterwards for comparison from said database. The data will be shown in real time to give the coach and athlete a chance to react to possible overexertion or lack of exertion in muscles and fix the athletes posture.
