Capstone

Goal

The Aistikattila project focuses on creating a simple user interface that combines the separate components of a multi-sensory research environment into a more usable entity. Audiovisual sceneries with added immersion aim at expanding the existing research area to accommodate multiple different fields and studies, where researchers can make adjustments to the experience for separate study groups.

Implementation

The Aistikattila Experience was built with Unity, using Unity Editor version 2021.3.11f1. The program uses Unity’s scenes functionality, with the main interface being the first scene in build, and the sceneries played on the projectors being the next scenes in build.

In the main interface scene, it is possible to navigate between two views, the scene library, and the scene manager. Launching the scenes to the projectors and adjusting the settings happens from the scene library view. Viewing and deleting items from the scene library happens in the scene manager and adding a new scene is possible from the scene manager.

When a scene is being shown, the Unity program uses five displays. The first display is the iMac in Aistikattila that is used to control the experience. The displays 2-5 are the projectors on the walls of Aistikattila. When the scene is launched, the sounds are adjusted simultaneously.

We reached the planned estimates and delivered the Aistikattila Experience which contains Unity software for launching audiovisual sceneries. The full list of our deliverables is: * Two sceneries included in the final product, i.e. the forest and space scenery. * Users can select from two different pre-made sceneries or add their own sceneries made with Unity. * Settings of the forest scenery can be adjusted accordingly (Day/Night, Rainy/Sunny, Sound/No Sound) * Software connects projectors, sound and the lights in Aistikattila

Future Development

The client found the end product promising. They have also shown interest in investing in further development of the Aistikattila Experience.
