Introduction

Self Loaning System is a web-based equipment loan management system developed for UTU Department of Computing. The application is tailored to be used by anyone with a mobile device, and is intended to replace and greatly enhance the existing pen and paper solution.

Goal

The loaning system used by the department of computing was previously based on pen and paper. Our goal was to create a system that is easy to maintain and use. The new system had to be as fast, easy and effortless to use as possible, so that people would prefer it over paper.

Results

The system is based on QR codes. Different items and locations have unique identifiers that, when scanned, give the user information and the option to loan the item. User management is based on utu.fi credentials and every user has broad access rights to the app, which minimizes the need for separate moderator and administrator roles. Every action is logged and every user can view the logs.
